It is with great sadness that we have recently learnt that trombonist Nat Dye has died of cancer at the age of 41. Nat played recently in our Christmas Concert of 2024 and in our Summer Concert of 2023. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2022.

Nathaniel achieved great success in his fundraising campaigns. He met with Kier Starmer and Wes Streeting, Wes wrote a few days ago “I am not usually lost for words, but I must admit I’ve really struggled to write this post since I learned last Thursday that my friend, constituent, and amazing campaigner – the marathon running, teacher, musician and (he’d like to think) comedian – Nathaniel Dye MBE has passed away.

Back in 2024, Nathaniel wrote, “My name is Nathaniel Dye and at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. I have been told that I am in my last year of life and, though if given a year, I’ll aim to see you in two- if my prognosis is accurate, I’ll most likely be in the ground by around March 2026, not long after my 40th birthday.

“I may be dying, but whilst I can, I choose to live and show the world through words and deeds that it’s possible to live a full life post-diagnosis. To raise awareness along the way in the hope that others – unlike me – can maybe catch cancer early enough to give them a hopeful outcome and a longer life.”

We are so glad he chose to play with us!
